Insurance & Direct Billing
Most Group Health Plans Cover Massage Therapy Benefits

Massage therapy is a widely appreciated health benefit included in many group and individual insurance plans. It’s no surprise—massage not only feels amazing but also supports your overall health and wellness.

How Does Massage Therapy Insurance Coverage Work?

Massage therapy coverage typically falls under paramedical benefits alongside chiropractic, physiotherapy, and other allied health services. When we talk about massage therapy insurance coverage, we mean treatments performed by a registered.

HOW TO MAXIMIZE YOUR INSURANCE BENEFITS

What You Should Know About Your Coverage

Group Health Plans (Employee Benefits)

Most employer-sponsored plans include massage therapy under paramedical coverage. These plans usually offer higher annual maximums (commonly $350 to $750 per year) and often do not limit the number of visits but may require a doctor’s referral. Coverage is per year and applies to each paramedical category separately.

Individual Health Insurance Plans

Personal plans also cover massage therapy but often have per-visit maximums (around $20 per visit) and limits on the number of visits annually. A doctor’s referral is usually required, except for some plans like Manulife’s Flexcare and FollowMe, which waive this after three years of coverage.

Provincial Healthcare

Public health plans generally do not cover massage therapy unless it’s part of hospital care deemed medically necessary.
